The first and most terrifying monster in
English literature, from the great early epic Beowulf, tells
his own side of the story in a book William Gass called "one
of the finest of our contemporary fictions."
"An extraordinary
achievement... very funny, original and deft, altogether lovable,
poignant, rich with thought and feeling... immensely enjoyable."
-The New York Times

Read
any good books lately? We have!
How does it work?
Each month the editors at Jupiter Sky
magazine will carefully select a book for discussion in our online book
club. In association with amazon.com,
we'll provide you quick links to purchase the books online at a discounted
price.
Do I have to buy the book online?
No, of course not. However, we try to choose books our readers are likely
to enjoy - or find a worthwhile read - and we've chosen amazon.com for
their prices, customer service and reputation. If you do follow our
links to purchase the book from them, a percentage of each sale will
go to Jupiter Sky, helping to make this magazine possible. If you buy
the book elsewhere, try to get the same edition (we will choose the
less expensive paperback versions) so that any specific page references
will be consistent.
Then what?
Read the book... and tell us what you think!
Give us your rating (1 to 5 stars), and more. Feel free to critique
the whole book, or to share your observations about specific points
- character, theme, style, language... anything at all. Compare to other
works, or review the book on its own merits. Jot just a few lines, or
give us an in-depth review.
It's your book club - give us your
opinion!
Submit your review in e-mail to the following address:
bookclub@jupitersky.com
Don't forget to include your name, school, etc.!
Over the course
of the month, we'll collect and select your reviews and post them here.
And if you prefer just to follow along and read the ongoing discussion,
that's fine, too!
How long do
I have to get and read the book?
Plenty of time. The discussion will begin the month after a book is
chosen for the online book club. For instance, your reviews of GRENDEL,
October's selection, will run all through the month of November. However,
you don't have to wait a month to submit your reviews! In fact, early
submissions may have a better chance of being selected and published.
Can I respond, or add, to someone else's review?
Of course - just be sure to cite the review you're referring to... and
remember that we will only acknowledge civil discourse. Friendly disagreement
is ok; it stirs up debate and discussion. Libel, name-calling and profanity,
however, will not be tolerated (not that you would, of course...
;-)
Can I suggest
a book for the future?
Sure... e-mail your suggestion to the address, above.
