We're looking primarily for free verse with a strong voice, vivid imagery, fresh language and unique insights and perspectives. Experimental poetry, traditional forms, and haiku also will be considered. Submit up to 5 poems at a time.

What do we look for in a short story? Strong narrative voice, memorable characters, rich language and imagery, and an engaging plot, to name a few. Mainstream, experimental, ethnic, humor, fantasy, suspense - all genres will be considered if the story is compelling. Explicitly violent or pornographic material is not for us.

Since a good essayist can make almost any topic interesting, we look first and foremost for pieces that are thought-provoking, challenging, insightful, and craftily written, whatever the subject matter. Humorous, satirical, critical, anecdotal, experiential and observational essays are all acceptable, as are pieces both serious and light in tone.

We're looking for visually arresting, smartly composed, artistic photography - color or b/w - of virtually any subject matter. Take us to new places, in all senses of the word, or let us glimpse wonder in the ordinary or the familiar. Edgy is OK; explicitly violent or sexual content is not.

Send us inspired original musical compositions - vocal, instrumental or both - of any style. Rock, pop, folk, jazz, swing, gospel, R&B, rap, bluegrass, classical, electronic, indigenous and "world" styles... we will consider any work that moves us. Also acceptable for submission are performances and interpretations of traditional or public domain works. A photo and short bio or press kit may be included.

Scans of pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, watercolors, oils, acrylics, collages, woodcuts, etchings, textiles, and mixed media works are all acceptable. Photographs of three-dimensional works (sculpture, glass, mixed media, etc.) are also acceptable, as is digitally-created artwork.

THE FINE PRINT:

We can consider previously unpublished, original material only. If we accept your submission, your work will be featured for one month in Jupiter Sky™ and will be accessible in perpetuity in the site archives.
Additionally, selected works may be included in future print anthologies or audio compilations of Jupiter Sky™ contributions. If your work is considered for such inclusion, you will be contacted in advance of publication for permission. Students who submit materials to Jupiter Sky™ retain all rights to their work.
